God’s Passion for Jerusalem | The Trumpet Daily

The Bible mentions Jerusalem over 700 times! Why is this city so important to God? No city on Earth stirs passions like Jerusalem! This city is continually in the news as a flash point of conflict. But when you understand what the Bible prophesies about this city, you know why. No city stirs God’s passions like the city of Jerusalem. On this episode of the Trumpet Daily, we explain why Jerusalem gets so much attention—and why it is so important to God. We Tell You Why

https://soundcloud.com/trumpetdaily/we-tell-you-why
According to the top Google searches for 2017, the world wants to know how: How do hurricanes form; how do wildfires start; how to make a protest sign; etc. Trumpet contributor Jeremiah Jacques wrote this week, “Asking how is certainly important. It leads a person to knowledge, which is the accumulation of facts and information. That is of indisputable value. But during such tumultuous times, are how questions about these topics the most pressing ones we should be asking? The Trumpet has often said that the most foundational questions ask not how—but why.” On today’s Trumpet Daily Radio Show, we look back at a tumultuous year and ask why these things are happening.

Thou Shalt Not Tolerate the ‘Intolerant

https://www.thetrumpet.com/16689-as-world-war-iii-looms-the-world-militarizes
On today’s university campuses, tolerance of others is considered one of the great virtues. But how do the “tolerant” respond to people they view as “intolerant”? Across America, more people are being pushed from the public view for simply stating their opinions on subjects like homosexual “marriage.” We discuss this troubling trend on today’s Trumpet Daily Radio Show.

Britain’s and America’s Military Decline

Over the last few months, there have been some shocking stories about the decline of the British and American militaries. At the same time, militaries in Europe, China, Russia and Japan are rising. Trumpet contributing editor Richard Palmer explores why some are rising and some are falling.

Russia and Iran prepare for war

Vladimir Putin’s Russia is preparing for World War III. Putin recently called for all Russian industry to be prepared for war production. Russia has been increasingly involved in arms trading, has ramped up provocations aimed at the United States and Britain, and is capitalizing on regional conflicts in places like Libya and Syria.
Iran, too, is preparing for war—specifically against Israel. Iran has been arming its terrorist proxy in Lebanon, Hezbollah, with large-scale precision missiles. While these powers prepare for war, America is in retreat. We discuss the importance of these events as they relate to Bible prophecy on today’s Trumpet Daily Radio Show.

Hidden Danger In Keeping Christmas? (2015)

Christmas is celebrated by billions of people around the world. So often in its observance, the theme of family togetherness, Jesus Christ, and goodwill toward men is overshadowed by commercialism, greed, and debt. Where did this holiday come from? It is meant to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ, but did you know that its origins go back long before Jesus was born? Traditions like Christmas trees, wreaths of holly, and Santa Claus have roots far more ancient than anything in the New Testament. Learn about this history, and why you should be concerned about it—next, on The Key of David, with Gerald Flurry. Christmas is America’s favorite holiday. Family togetherness and the life of Jesus Christ are both wonderful, but it is easy to spot the greed, materialism and debt caused by Christmas observance. Did God command Christmas observance? What are its origins? Who invented this day? Is December 25th even Christ’s birthday? Request our free booklet The Truth About Christmas to thoroughly answer these questions for yourself. The Courage to Make Good Things Happen | The Trumpet Daily

Lessons from the life of a faithful warrior for God. Joshua had the ability to make good things happen. This noble strength was necessary when he took over the leadership of Israel after Moses died. Joshua had proved himself even before he led the Israelites into the Promised Land. Along the way, God repeatedly told Joshua, Don’t be afraid! Stand up and be courageous! Wherever you go, I am with you. God wanted him to build more courage because of the bigger battles ahead. His courage in those bigger battles brought even greater successes. God wants the same for you and me. On today’s program, we will examine the subject of spiritual courage.

What Do Muslims and German Right-wing Extremists Have in Common? Their Hatred for Jews

While many ideologies separate Germany from the Arab world, the Bible prophesies of a common alliance between Germany and a few moderate Arab nations. Much has already been done to forge this alliance that rises as a counterbalance to Iran and its allies (you can read more on this in our trend section “Germany Allying With Arab Nations”). A prophecy in Psalm 83, however, shows that this alliance will also turn against the modern descendants of Israel. The alliance has two purposes: first, to defeat Iran and radical Islam; second, to eliminate Israel from the map. Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry explained:
Psalm 83 is fulfilled almost immediately after a Germany-led Europe conquers Iran and radical Islam (Daniel 11:40-43).
“Keep not thou silence, O God: hold not thy peace, and be not still, O God. For, lo, thine enemies make a tumult: and they that hate thee have lifted up the head. They have taken crafty counsel against thy people [Israel], and consulted against thy hidden [or shelteredones” (Psalm 83:1-3).
These enemies are conspiring against biblical Israel. (Our book The United States and Britain in Prophecy explains who Israel is. All of our literature is free.) …
“They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance” (Psalm 83:4).
Remember what the historian Uffa Jensen told Spiegel Online: “Israeli-related anti-Semitism has increased in recent years—in the entire German population.” That very same hatred is also increasing in the Arab world.
Germany is eager to play a more prominent role in the peace process. Israel already trusts Germany, relying on it for significant military equipment, for example. The current widespread anti-Semitism, however, reveals that Germany is not a trustworthy ally.
Bible prophecy gives the same warning—only in much stronger terms. Passages like Hosea 5 give stark warnings about what will come from Israel’s trust in Germany. For more about this, read our article “Can Israel Trust Germany?

The World Responds to President Trump’s ‘America First’ Doctrine

https://soundcloud.com/trumpetdaily/the-world-responds-to-president-trumps-america-first-doctrine
A vast majority of the United Nations General Assembly voted in favor of rejecting U.S. President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital yesterday. President Trump and his UN representative, Nikki Haley, took the vote personally, vowing to remember the nations who voted against the U.S. when those countries come looking for money from America. It’s another example of Mr. Trump’s “America first” policy. On today’s program, we examine how the world, and Europe specifically, will respond to “America first.”

The Courage and Humility of Young Saul | The Trumpet Daily

Lessons from the early life of King Saul. When the people of ancient Israel demanded a human king to rule over them like other nations, God gave them Saul, a man of the people. Trump’s Jerusalem Speech Is an Opportunity for Europe

The Bible contains specific warnings about coming dark times for Jerusalem. Many of these warnings revolve around a peace process. One of them is found in Hosea 5:13. It states that when “Judah saw his wound,” he went “to the Assyrian, and sent to king Jareb.” What is this talking about? Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry explains in his free booklet Jerusalem in Prophecy:
The word wound is number 4205 in Strong’s Concordance. It means “in the sense of binding up: a bondage, i.e. remedy.” Gesenius’ Lexicon defines it this way: “the pressing together, binding up of a wound; here used figuratively of a remedy applied to the wounds of the state.” In other words, the remedy is the wound!
Another word for wound is also mentioned in Obadiah 7: “All the men of thy confederacy have brought thee even to the border: the men that were at peace with thee have deceived thee, and prevailed against thee; they that eat thy bread have laid a wound under thee: there is none understanding in him.” This wound is number 4204 in Strong’sGesenius’ defines it as “falsehood; hence, fraud, insidious dealing … net, or snare.” It has the same root word as the word used in Hosea 5:13. In Obadiah the wound is directly related to being deceived by a peace pact!
This prophecy, then, states that Israel will have trouble with its peace pact and will turn to another power for help—to Assyria. This is the biblical name for Germany. (For proof of this, read our free reprint article “The Remarkable Identity of the German People.”)
Israel, then, is prophesied to turn to Germany! Exactly the situation we now see an opening for. Other Bible prophecies tell us what happens next. Daniel 11:40-41 talk about “the king of the north,” referring to this same German-led European power. This power “shall enter also into the glorious land,” referring to Jerusalem. Mr. Flurry explains: “The word enter in no way indicates the use of force. The Germans will undoubtedly be invited in as a peacekeeping force.”
In the short term, this does not turn out well for Jerusalem. But Hosea 5 says that this suffering will lead Israel to “acknowledge their offence, and seek my face: in their affliction they will seek me early” (verse 15).
God is allowing this to happen for a glorious purpose. And Mr. Trump’s decision could pave the way for this important, prophesied event—Israel turning to Germany. For more on the prophesied outcome of these events, read “Israel’s Deadly ‘Wound’” in our free booklet Jerusalem in Prophecy.

The Sun Declares God’s Glory

https://www.thetrumpet.com/16639-the-sun-declares-gods-glory

The Bible also gives us important information about the sun. Notice Psalm 19:1: “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.” The universe is actually declaring a message from God! The psalm continues: “Day to day pours forth speech, and night to night declares knowledge. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard” (verse 2-3; Revised Standard Version). Though it is an unspoken message, it becomes loud and clear if only we are willing to open our eyes to see it. Modern scientific instruments like the sdo and Hubble telescope make it possible to more clearly discern these messages from God’s majestic handiwork.
In her book, Green explains that all this new data “has literally expanded our horizons and even shown that the atmosphere of the sun reaches out to a staggering 18 billion kilometers beyond us …”! That’s 120 times farther out than the Earth’s orbit! That means that “we are living in the sun’s atmosphere!” (emphasis added throughout).
Our massively dominant star gives life to planet Earth. “Not only does sunlight allow us to see,” she writes, “but it made our rocky planet habitable for millions of species of animals and plants. It grows our food, it drives our weather, and it can even be utilized to generate electricity to power modern society. Sunlight is amazingly versatile, but above all there is something about sunlight that means it is able to keep us alive. We literally could not live without it.”
There is an amazing spiritual parallel that God’s creation is declaring about the First Commandment. Malachi 4:2 calls Christ the “Sun of righteousness,” and numerous New Testament passages refer to the spiritual light that He brings to this dark world. Just as everything revolves around the sun, we must revolve our lives around God the way our planet does the sun. God must be at the very center of our lives—He must completely dominate our lives the way that the sun dominates our solar system.
Paul wrote in Acts 17:28 that “in him we live, and move, and have our being.” Moses commanded us to love, obey and cleave to God, “for he is thy life, and the length of thy days” (Deuteronomy 30:20).
These are so many lessons that we can draw from studying our great star. The heavens declare God’s great power, and even the way that He orders the universe. If you would like to hear more, you can listen to my Trumpet Daily Radio Show where I delved into more on this inspiring subject.
If you haven’t done so, I’d also encourage you to read Our Awesome Universe Potentialby Joel Hilliker. This inspiring booklet will help you to observe the Creator’s handiwork and will give you a universe-sized vision.

The EU’s Superpower Ambitions Exposed

Britain is quitting the European Union. Across the Continent, more and more are saying they want less Europe. Euroskeptic parties are rising in power. Some are saying the EU is dead.
Is it?
On today’s show, theTrumpet.com assistant managing editor Richard Palmer examines the ambitions of the EU leaders, the practical steps they’ve taken just in the last week toward a superstate, and where this is leading.

Will Donald Trump’s Tax Plan Lead to Trade War?

With America pulling away from globalization, Germany is looking to China and other Asian nations instead. Germany and China are getting more and more friendly, and Bible prophecy indicates that this trend will continue. Ezekiel 27 prophesies a temporary Europe-Asia economic alliance that will arise in the end time. This alliance will not include America and Britain—in fact, it will be against these nations.
Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry has shown that, as prophesied in Ezekiel 5, this Eurasian “mart of nations” will actually “besiege America, Britain and the Jewish nation.” How will they besiege America? Through a trade war. He writes in Ezekiel: The End-Time Prophet:
The United States and Britain are going to be left out in the cold as two gigantic trade blocs, Europe and Asia, mesh together and begin calling the shots in world commerce. These nations of Israel are going to be literally besieged—economically frozen out of world trade!
Herbert W. Armstrong prophesied this coming trade war as well. In the March 1971 Plain Truth, he wrote:
Either we start raising high tariff barriers against other countries, starting a trade war which in time will trigger the nuclear war that will destroy us—or American workers are going to have to meet the competition of the workers in other countries, by lowering living standards. Obviously American workers are not going to choose to do the latter. And if they don’t—well, the handwriting is on our national wall.
That is exactly what we are seeing happen today! America is raising its tariffs against other countries. This move could lead to the trade war and economic siege that will destroy us! “We are clearly in the early stages of the trade war that precedes this siege!” Mr. Macdonald wrote. President Trump’s tax reform plan is leading toward that siege, although he doesn’t know it yet.
Trade war is not just a fantasy. It is fast becoming a deadly, dangerous reality. To learn more about the prophesied trade war and where it will lead, read Brad Macdonald’s article “Trade Wars Have Begun.”

The EU’s Superpower Megalomania

Of course, here at the Trumpet we never had any doubt this would happen. The development of the European Union is a fulfillment of biblical prophecy.
The Bible clearly foretells of a 10-nation superpower rising up in Europe as a continuation of the Holy Roman Empire. This is where Europe is heading.
It means some big changes are coming, and only as a result of major crises. The EU is currently 28 nations, not 10. Shrinking down won’t be smooth sailing. Even when it reaches this destination, its power “shall be partly strong, and partly broken” (Daniel 2:42). This multinational behemoth will never completely overcome national differences.
It was because of biblical prophecies that Herbert W. Armstrong forecast what this power would be like. The European Economic Community—the precursor to the EU—began in 1958. In 1959 the Plain Truth wrote, “And so a gigantic trading bloc is being built—to fulfill the Bible prophecies ….” Under the subhead “The United States of Europe” it wrote:
The U.S. News and World Report printed a special interview with Jean Monnet, who has been called the “Architect of a United Europe” in its Feb. 20, 1959 issue.
When asked what he saw ahead economically for West Europe, since the forming of Euromart, Mr. Monnet replied he saw much more than just the removal of age-old trade barriers—that these nations are now pooling their resources—and implied this is just a beginning, that the European Economic Community is open to other nations!
It’s time to wake up! The European union is the world’s number one importer, the world’s number two industrial poweralready out-producing Russia! It is destined to grow by leaps and bounds in the future. Your Bible says so!
Konrad Adenauer stated in 1950, “A federated Europe will become a Third Force in the world … powerful enough to intervene successfully—in a decisive moment—to safeguard the peace …. Germany has again become a factor with whom others will have to reckon in international affairs ….”
When Britain joined this community in 1973, Mr. Armstrong wrote, “Britain is going to look back on Monday, Jan. 1, 1973, in all probability, as a most tragically historic date—a date fraught with ominous potentialities! For that date marked the United Kingdom’s entry into the European Community.”
It was certainly a decision that many in Britain later regretted. And even now that Britain has voted to leave, it is still experiencing those “ominous potentialities.”
These forecasts and many more are made because of biblical prophecy. The Bible has already proved to be an accurate guide to the character of this union.
Any power led by people who believe they are infallible is a dangerous one. But the Bible tells us precisely where this one is leading. To learn about the ultimate fate of this union, read our free book The Holy Roman Empire in Prophecy—especially the chapter on modern Europe: “The Seventh and Final Resurrection—Now Here.”

The National Debt Is a Domestic Security Threat

Why Is Debt a Threat?

The gross domestic product of the United States is $19 trillion. But since the nation carries $20 trillion in debt, America owes more than it makes in a year. In fact, America’s current debt-to-gdp ratio is higher than it has been at any point since the end of the Second World War.
During World War ii, however, the government was going into debt paying for a war that was going to end. Today, the government is going into debt paying for retirement and health-care programs that are expected to grow more expensive. According to Congressional Budget estimates, the national debt is projected to soar to an unfathomable $92 trillion over the next 30 years. By the end of the decade, the U.S. could be spending nearly $800 billion a year just on interest payments.
Financial historian Niall Ferguson has warned that nations and empires usually fall apart when the cost of servicing their debts exceeds the cost of defending their borders. Based on current budget projections, America will be spending more on interest payments than on national defense within five years. If interest rates on U.S. Treasury bonds increase, the nation could reach this point much sooner.

What Does the Bible Say?

In ancient times, God instructed the Israelites that blessings come from obedience to His laws, just as curses come from disobedience. In Deuteronomy 28, God specifically warned that debt problems are one of the many curses that come from disobedience. Specifically, God warned that if Israel turned away from Him, strangers would lend them money, but they would not lend to others.
America’s current economic woes are not the cause of its problems. Instead, they are one of many symptoms that point to the greater problem of rebellion against God’s law.
To learn more about the dangers of out-of-control government spending, request our free reprint article “The Biggest Threat to America’s National Security,” by Joel Hilliker.

Putin’s Victory Lap in Syria

https://soundcloud.com/trumpetdaily/putins-victory-lap-in-syria
Russian President Vladimir Putin made an unannounced visit to Syria yesterday to visit his ally Bashar Assad and declare victory against the Islamic State. Putin is the first foreign leader to visit Syria in seven years. Russia has two bases in Syria, and there is no sign the Russians will be leaving soon. In October 2015, then United States President Barack Obama told Putin that getting involved in Syria was like entering a “quagmire.” Russia has proved its ability to maneuver through the Middle East to the embarrassment of the U.S. Putin’s victory in Syria is part of a larger trend that sees a weakening and inept America being pushed out of the Middle East. We discuss this and more on today’s Trumpet Daily Radio Show.

Presidents and Their TV Preferences

https://soundcloud.com/trumpetdaily/presidents-and-their-tv-preferences
Yesterday the New York Times printed an unflattering, 4,300-word profile of U.S. President Donald Trump’s love for cable news television, tweeting and desert. The Times insists that this president only has the attention span of a “jack-rabbit.” So he’s forced to rely mainly on verbal meetings and Fox News to get most of his information. Of course, when Barack Obama watched television—and he watched a lot—it was always a much-needed break from a long, grueling day at the Oval Office. Trump does it because he’s shallow. That’s how the Times sees it. On today’s program, we look at the TV-viewing preferences of the past two U.S. presidents—as well as the other important stories of the day.

A Capital in Jerusalem—And Just How Ancient are the Biblical Writings?

It is a massive debate between the biblical minimalists and traditionalists. Just when was the Bible written? On the one hand, there are those that claim it was written just when it says—the traditionalists; and on the other, there are the those who claim it was written hundreds, if not a thousand years, later—the minimalists. Can we know?
On today’s program, guest host Christopher Eames finishes his series examining that question, in light of archaeological and textual evidence, with the third division of the Hebrew Bible—the Writings. He also discusses the rationale and significance behind the recent landmark US acceptance of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
