Obama Assails News Media for Shallow Reporting and Canada Seeks to Reward Laziness

https://soundcloud.com/trumpetdaily/obama-assails-news-media-for-shallow-reporting-and-canada-seeks-to-reward-laziness

In his speech at the Toner Prize Ceremony this week, United States President Barack Obama said the media was failing to dig deep into the stories during this presidential campaign season. He said that during his campaign back in 2008, the media asked “tough questions” to see if his actions would match his words. Looking back at President Obama’s comments in 2008, it’s clear he didn’t follow through on his promises, and most of all, the media had a big part to play in propping him up. On today’s program, Stephen Flurry explains how the biased media is affecting the U.S. and how it helped President Obama get into office.
Also on this show, Canada experiments with a new program that will guarantee people a minimum income even if they’re not working. What does the Bible have to say about hard work and earning an income?

Trumpet Hour: Capitalism or Communism?, How Doctors Die, Saved From Screens and More

• President Obama was pretty impressed from his visit to Cuba—he said that when it comes to human rights, Americans have a lot to learn from Cuba. He even encouraged young people to look at capitalism, socialism, even communism, and take whatever ideas work.
• If you suffered a serious accident, what would you want the doctors to do in order to try to save you? Most people would say, whatever you need to do! But not everyone agrees with that idea—and the reason why will probably surprise you.
• Evidence keeps mounting of just how addicted to our screens we have become—and how this is affecting our work, our relationships, even our thinking. How can you save your brain from screen addiction?
• And we’ll conclude by giving you a potent tool for becoming a better you.

A Week’s Worth of Unspeakable Acts of Radical Islamic Terrorism

https://soundcloud.com/trumpetdaily/a-weeks-worth-of-unspeakable-acts-of-radical-islamic-terrorism

The attacks in Brussels and Lahore this past week grabbed most of the world’s attention, but a few less covered acts of terrorism took place around the globe showing that terror is becoming the new norm. In Glasgow, a Muslim man who wished Christians a “Happy Easter” was killed by another Muslim. In Iraq, a bomb blast killed 41 during a soccer match. Three explosions in Yemen left 25 dead, while the Islamic State crucified an Indian Catholic priest the same day. These acts of terror are only increasing around the globe, and the United States has been virtually silent about it. On today’s show, Stephen Flurry explains how the rest of the world will respond to these events while America disappears from the scene.

Did Christ Rise on Easter?

https://www.pcog.org/articles/2400/did-christ-rise-on-easter

Consider the one sign proving His messiahship.

Traditional Christianity has long believed that Christ was buried on the afternoon of Good Friday and resurrected early Sunday morning—one day and two nights later—even though this belief cuts in half the time frame Christ established as proof of His messiahship: “For as [Jonah] was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth” (Matthew 12:40).
Besides that, the Bible nowhere mentions “Good Friday” or “Easter” (Acts 12:4 is a mistranslation). What it does say is that Jesus Christ was crucified on Passover (Matthew 26:2).
In ancient Israel, God’s people observed Passover by killing lambs and smearing blood over their doorposts (read Exodus 12). God then passed over each house where the blood was applied, sparing that household from death. All this was only a type of “Christ our Passover,” as it says in 1 Corinthians 5:7. Today, it is Christ’s shed blood that spares the life of a truly repentant Christian.
Jesus Christ died in a.d. 31. The Passover that year fell on Wednesday, April 25 (not Friday). Because God’s days begin and end at sunset, the actual Passover ceremony that Jesus observed with His disciples occurred Tuesday night—the beginning of the 14th day of the first month on the Hebrew calendar. On Tuesday afternoon, the disciples had asked Jesus about where to make preparations for the service (Matthew 26:17). That night, during the ceremony, Jesus changed the symbols, explaining that He was now that Passover sacrifice (Matthew 26:26-28).
After that Passover service, they went out into the Mount of Olives (verse 30). Christ spent most of the night praying while His disciples slept (verses 36-45). Early Wednesday morning, still on the 14th day of the first month, Judas came with the multitude to arrest Christ (verses 47-50). The crucifixion occurred later that same day.
At the “ninth hour” of the 14th, Jesus cried out (Matthew 27:46-50; Mark 15:34-37; Luke 23:44-46). This would have been at 3 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon. That night, at sunset, marked the beginning of the first day of Unleavened Bread—one of God’s holy days, as outlined in Leviticus 23 (see also Numbers 28:16-17).
The weekly Sabbath, of course, is on Saturday. But the first day of Unleavened Bread was the first of seven annual sabbaths instituted by God. Since most people do not observe God’s holy days today, they do not know that the Bible also refers to these days as sabbaths (see Leviticus 16:31; 23:24, 26-32, 39).
Now follow this course of events closely. In John 19:30, Jesus bowed His head and said, “It is finished.” Notice the very next verse: “The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away” (verse 31). Here is where so many scholars jump the track. They assume that because the day of Christ’s crucifixion is referred to as “the preparation” prior to “the sabbath” (Matthew 27:62; Mark 15:42; Luke 23:54) that it must have been on Friday. But as John points out, the preparation day was actually before a sabbath that was a “high day”—an annual holy day.
John 19:32-42 explain what happened between Christ’s death and His burial. Notice especially verse 42: “There laid they Jesus therefore because of the Jews’ preparation day; for the sepulchre was nigh at hand.” They buried Him late Wednesday afternoon, before sunset, because, according to Jewish customs, all dead bodies had to be buried before the Sabbath, whether weekly or annual. So Christ died on the afternoon of the 14th at 3 p.m. He was buried later that afternoon before sunset. From that point, all we have to do is count three days and three nights to know when He was resurrected.

The Opportunity in Failure

https://www.pcog.org/articles/2402/the-opportunity-in-failure

Letdowns happen to us all. How we respond is what’s important.

In his booklet The Seven Laws of Success (we’d be happy to send you a free copy), the sixth of the seven laws Herbert W. Armstrong described is perseverance. This booklet says: “[N]ine in ten, at least once or twice in a lifetime, come to the place where they appear to be totally defeated! All islost!—apparently, that is. They give up and quit, when just a little more determined hanging on, just a little more faith and perseverance—just a little more stick-to-it-iveness—would have turned apparent certain failure into glorious success.”
Learning to gracefully handle disappointment and to bounce back from failure will make you a lot more successful at a lot more things in your life. The person who remains positive, learns from his mistakes, applies the lessons of a failure and charges forward for another attempt, is the person who ultimately nails it.
Proverbs 24:16 is a wonderful proverb to remember: “For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.” Everybody falls. When the wicked fall, they don’t get back up. But when the righteous fall, they refuse to give up. They rise to their feet and keep moving forward. “Seven times” is an expression that means over and over, again and again.
Psalm 145:14 gives another scriptural promise to keep in mind: “The Lord upholdeth all that fall, and raiseth up all those that be bowed down.” When you fall, God will revive you. When you’re discouraged, God will pick you up and encourage you, just like a parent who is excitedly helping his toddler learn how to walk.
So, you failed. Don’t be discouraged by the fact that you’re human like the rest of us. Think it through, get counsel, learn what you can from the mistake. Rise up, lift your chin, and move forward. The harder you work for something, the sweeter it will be when you achieve it.

Free Money for Everyone!

https://www.thetrumpet.com/article/13692.18.0.0/free-money-for-everyone

Is this a bogus scam or Canadian public policy? It’s both.

Common sense is backed up by the Bible, which teaches that work is an essential aspect of social development and character building. King Solomon warned that poverty comes to those who don’t work hard (Proverbs 6). The Apostle Paul wrote, “If you don’t work, you don’t eat.” In 1 Timothy 5:8, he writes that if a man doesn’t provide for his own household, he has denied the faith.
When we depart from biblical principles, disaster ensues. That’s a law that can’t be avoided. True at the personal level, it is amplified at the national level.
This grand experiment called the basic income scheme will not produce more prosperity or happiness. It is guaranteed to produce the very kinds of social ills society wishes to avoid. Even if you really, really want there to be one, there is no such thing as a free lunch. A “free” basic income will come at a very high cost.

Very few people become successful in life. Most don’t know the true definition of success, or what to do to obtain it. Request our free booklet The Seven Laws of Success to get answers. No difficult circumstances or disadvantaged upbringing should ever doom a man to failure. However, there is no get-rich-quick scheme for success. It takes consistent, focused application of these seven laws. The vast majority of the wealthy and famous throughout history have properly applied the first six laws, but the seventh one eluded them. You can know the spiritual dimension to real and lasting success that they never discovered. Just order our free booklet The Seven Laws of Success.

Your Time is Your Life! - The Trumpet Daily

Benjamin Franklin once asked, “Do you love life? Then do not squander time, for that’s the stuff life is made out of.” Franklin said he worked all his life to organize his time, and he never fully succeeded at mastering time management. It’s not easy organizing your time—particularly if you’re a true Christian hard at work trying to organize your life God’s way.

Our time is precious, and we must use it God’s way. We are surrounded with all kinds of material things to help us enjoy life. Though these things may not be wrong of and by themselves, it is too easy to allow them to take time away from the things we should be doing. We only have a certain amount of time on this Earth. If we waste it, then we are wasting our lives.

God promises to help us in our pursuit of time management. Moses prayed in the Psalms, “Teach us to number our days and recognize how few they are; help us to spend them as we should.” With God’s guidance, we can make the most of our precious, God-given time.

History Returns in Europe and God’s Standard of Balance

https://soundcloud.com/trumpetdaily/history-returns-in-europe-and-gods-standard-of-balance

When the European Union was created, the Continent thought it had escaped its long history of war and division. But, as the Observer noted this week after the Brussels bombings, “history has returned.” Violent attacks in Europe are becoming the new norm as terrorists begin to expose many of Europe’s integration shortcomings. What happens when the battle begins to heat up even more? On today’s show, listen to Stephen Flurry explain what Bible prophecy says about how Europe will respond to radical Islam.
Also on today’s show, the importance of living a balanced lifestyle and the need for self-control in achieving that goal.

• After terrorist attacks this week in Brussels, Belgium, European leaders are saying the time has come to step up collective security within Europe—helping to unify European policing, defense and military.
• Reports show that Russia is increasing its militarization of the Crimean Peninsula—turning this Eastern European territory into an “unsinkable aircraft carrier.”
• China continues to increase its presence in the South China Sea, getting a stranglehold on strategic trade routes—and there’s also a Chinese company trying to buy the Chicago Stock Exchange.
• We’ll also talk about Iranian hackers taking over a dam in New York—Iranians making a statue of the American sailors it captured—al Qaeda getting a stronger foothold in Northern Africa—Americans’ addiction to painkillers—and what the British people of yesteryear would have thought of the people who are afraid to leave the European Union.
