During his presidential campaign, Donald Trump harshly criticized America’s war against terrorism, even saying the United States generals leading the war effort “haven’t done the job.” In an article for Real Clear World, titled “The Swamp of War,” Andrew Bacevich wrote that Mr. Trump may be on to something. Why aren’t America’s generals winning these battles? Stephen Flurry discusses what Bible prophecy says about America’s military losses on today’s Trumpet Daily Radio Show.

Britain’s ‘Motor City’—Boom Town to Ghost Town

As recently as the 1950s, Great Britain was the leading exporter of automobiles. At the center of the automobile boom was the city of Coventry—known as Britain’s “Motor City.” But now, Coventry, like Detroit in the United States, is a shell of its former self. The massive industrial output of this city was the product of a promise made to the ancient patriarch Abraham. Now those blessings are disappearing. Why? Find out on today’s Trumpet Daily Radio Show.

• Iran is working to gain more control of the strategically important waters of the Middle East. After some incidents this past year where it provoked the United States Navy—now an Iranian general has floated the idea of Iran actually constructing naval bases in other Middle Eastern nations.
• Egypt and Saudi Arabia have long been allies—but recently the two have been in a disagreement that may show Egypt beginning to align with Iran. We’ll look at why—and how this may point to the fulfillment of a biblical prophecy.
• Fidel Castro’s death this past Saturday inspired some positive eulogies from some Western leaders. We’re going to look at why a lot of people are celebrating his death.

Since the death of Cuban Communist dictator Fidel Castro, Western leaders have showered his tyrannical rule with praise. Despite his horrific human rights record, the liberal left has honored him; the prime minister of Canada even called him a “remarkable leader.” Perhaps just as troubling is that more conservative leaders haven’t spoken out about Castro’s atrocious track record as dictator. Why is the West silent about the evils and failures of Cuba’s Communist regime? Herbert W. Armstrong warned in the 1960s about the infiltration of communism in America and Britain. On today’s show, Stephen Flurry discusses how the West’s praise of Fidel Castro is an example of how the Communist ideology has infiltrated America and Britain.

America’s Election and Europe’s New Order
https://www.thetrumpet.com/article/14334.18.191.0/world/government/americas-election-and-europes-new-order
Donald Trump’s election is accelerating some of the most vital prophetic trends the Trumpet has followed for decades.
Warning about the cooling of relations between Europe and the U.S., Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry wrote in October 2014 that this “is a significant development. It is about the dismantling of a relationship that has helped to preserve peace in Europe for nearly seven decades!”
He continued: “Bible prophecy warns that a German-led European empire is going to rise up. We have said for over 50 years that it will probably be more powerful than both America and Russia!
“The age of American global leadership is drawing to a close. While the Germans might not come out and say so, they are reveling in that fact. The U.S. may try and repair relations with its former lover, but irreversible damage has already been done. The breakup, which started with the spying scandal, is going to continue to worsen until one of America’s greatest allies since World War II becomes, once again, its greatest enemy!”
“What makes the German-American split especially important is this: It is exactly what biblical prophecy told us would happen!” Mr. Flurry wrote. He elaborated on one of those prophecies, in Ezekiel 23, which describes America and Britain as having a lover-type relationship with the modern Assyrians—Germany—a relationship that will end with a massive double cross.
This German-American split is clearer than ever—and will accelerate further in the coming months.
We have said for decades that Germany will lead Europe. And we have warned that the EU would develop a common military. In 1978, Herbert W. Armstrong wrote, “The Europeans are far more disturbed about their safety in relying on United States military power to protect them than Americans realize! The United States is not loved in Europe. European confidence in U.S. protection against their next-door Communist neighbor has been lessening and lessening.
“EUROPEANS WANT THEIR OWN UNITED MILITARY POWER! They know that a political union of Europe would produce a THIRD MAJOR WORLD POWER, as strong as either the United States or the USSR—possibly stronger!” (Good News, Aug. 28, 1978). That applies more than ever to Europe today! Europeans are, right now, saying almost exactly that!
Meanwhile Mr. Trump’s election is building the sense of crisis in Europe. The whole continent is crying out for strong leadership. Germany is the strongest nation, but Chancellor Merkel is isolated and has proved that she is not the leader for the job. We have forecasted for years that this will lead to the rise of a strong leader within Europe.
It’s clear that when Mr. Armstrong was writing in 1978, he expected to see this European military power within his lifetime. It did not happen on the timescale he anticipated. But world events are moving forward at a dramatic pace, and the election of Donald Trump will accelerate them greatly.
Bible prophecy is becoming increasingly hard to ignore. Already Herbert W. Armstrong’s decades-old forecasting has been proven right on Brexit. You need to become familiar with what he wrote—it is filling more and more of your newspaper headlines.
The pace of Bible prophecy is increasing. Request our free booklet He Was Right to learn more prophecies that are being fulfilled in today’s headlines.

Can Donald Trump Save America’s Military?

The world is becoming increasingly dangerous according to a former NATO deputy commander who has written a book warning of the real danger of nuclear war. Trumpet staff writer Richard Palmer examines how Britain and America are responding to this reality. In order to cut costs, Britain has made its navy less effective than the ships it operated in the 19th century. Meanwhile, American President-elect Donald Trump has promised to reverse America’s painful spending cuts—which have left the American Navy smaller than any point since 1916. But will this save America?

• In Germany, Angela Merkel says she’ll run for a fourth term as chancellor—and the collective yawn from Germans showed how much they yearn for stronger leadership.
• We’ll also talk about Britain signaling its willingness to cooperate with European military unification—alarm bells sounding over the effectiveness of American defense—Iran continuing to defy the terms of the nuclear deal—and Japan using its soldiers in a way that it hasn’t done since World War II.
Can He Make America Great Again?
https://www.thetrumpet.com/article/14333.18.191.0/world/government/can-he-make-america-great-again
God has been trying to get America’s attention for decades—and we have ignored Him, defied Him, and openly blasphemed Him. We are suffering curses for doing so—curses that are destined to intensify, no matter who is president.
You need to know why. Don’t let this tumultuous election go by without learning the lesson! Let God get your attention. He has spelled out in biblical prophecy exactly what is going to happen to this nation because of the course we have chosen. You can read all about it in Herbert W. Armstrong’s book The United States and Britain in Prophecy. Anyone who ignores that forewarning is about to experience a series of shocks far more devastating than an election upset. If you know biblical prophecy, you know that the surprises in America are just getting started.
Yes, America is CURSED today. But as bad as that sounds, God allows curses for a reason! They are actually intended to open our eyes to recognize our SINS—our immorality, our lawlessness, our self-righteousness, our HYPOCRISY. They are intended to achieve God’s ultimate goal for us, and for all people of all nations: He is “not willing that any should perish, but that ALL should come to REPENTANCE” (2 Peter 3:9). God wants to turn America around—so we can begin to receive His blessings and favor once more.
Once He gets the nation’s attention, and once we respond, America will truly be on the path to becoming great again.

The Day of Thanksgiving America Needs

President-elect Donald Trump gave a short Thanksgiving message to Americans calling for unity in a divided land. One hundred fifty years earlier, President Abraham Lincoln, in facing the American Civil War, made quite a different request of the nation's citizens. On today’s program Trumpet contributor Brent Nagtegaal looks back at Thanksgiving messages from two presidents who realized the key to national unity.

The World Has Never Been Safer
https://www.thetrumpet.com/article/14331.18.0.0/world/war/the-world-has-never-been-safer
The Trumpet does predict a third world war, but under specific circumstances. It will happen when the United States has collapsed and Britain is outside the European Union; when the eastern powerhouses will have formed a formidable bloc; when a shaky but forced European collaboration is a world power; when a divided Middle East is pushing against its boundaries.
Today, such world conditions are not altogether impossible to envision. But one certain visionary predicted them at a time when little would have appeared less likely. Herbert W. Armstrong, founder of the Plain Truth, this publication’s predecessor, predicted these conditions more than half a century ago. Numerous editors of the Trumpet worked to collect Mr. Armstrong’s many predictions—based on the Bible—and compiled them in our free booklet He Was Right. Check for yourself whether or not the world he warned of has arrived.
Even the latest shift in world politics—the election of Donald Trump as the next American president—has put many usually optimistic thinkers in a state of panic over what could happen next. In the past months, scores of headlines declared Donald Trump would be the next Hitler, World War III would begin under his watch, and he shouldn’t be allowed near the precious “nuclear codes.” Suddenly Russian President Vladimir Putin seems a little more emboldened, the Middle East a little more prone to explosion, and Europe a little more focused on its army. How quickly the world can change. Flash-points previously dismissed are looking a little more prone to ignite. Editor in chief Gerald Flurry has shown just how fast nation-states are moving toward a world war in articles such as “America’s Deadly Nuclear Deal With Iran” and “China Is Steering the World Toward War.”
We’ll end with a game of “guess when this was written.” The quote comes from an eminent historian, with a brilliantly analytical mind and an abundance of “evidence.” But one still can’t help thinking he was talking to our turkey a few days before Thanksgiving:
That this barbarous pursuit is, in the progress of society, steadily declining, must be evident, even to the most hasty reader of European history. If we compare one country with another, we shall find that for a very long period wars have been becoming less frequent; and now so clearly is the movement marked, that, until the late commencement of hostilities, we had remained at peace for nearly 40 years: a circumstance unparalleled. … The question arises, as to what share our moral feelings have had in bringing about this great improvement.
The quote is from H. T. Buckle, in his History of Civilization in England, and it was published in 1857. Yes, before the unexpected World War I. ▪

We Have Forgotten God

America’s Coming Civil War
https://www.thetrumpet.com/article/14332.18.191.0/world/government/americas-coming-civil-war#
Donald Trump’s win is a prophetic sign of impending civil war and anarchy, followed by America’s worst military defeat ever! But don’t blame the politicians or the race-baiters or the professional rioters. This situation exists in America only because of the sins of the nation—of all Americans! We can no longer ignore what we have reaped by giving ourselves over to sin. This is a reckoning!
The good news, though, is that the destruction about to sweep over us is all for a purpose. It is precisely measured, and it is purposeful. It is preparing our people to come to know God!
Even the book of Amos, which contains a lot of bad news, concludes by showing the inspiring outcome. “‘Behold, the days are coming,’ says the Lord, ‘When the plowman shall overtake the reaper, and the treader of grapes him who sows seed; the mountains shall drip with sweet wine, and all the hills shall flow with it. I will bring back the captives of My people Israel; they shall build the waste cities and inhabit them; they shall plant vineyards and drink wine from them; they shall also make gardens and eat fruit from them. I will plant them in their land, and no longer shall they be pulled up from the land I have given them,’ says the Lord your God” (Amos 9:13-15; New King James Version).
There are dark days ahead—but never lose sight of WHY God is allowing it—and the inspiring conclusion!

Ignited by the election of Donald Trump, Europe’s leaders are quickly moving to develop a European military in place of the American defense umbrella. At the end of World War II, it was the aim of Britain and America to keep Germany and Europe from ever rising again militarily. Ironically, in Mr. Trump’s attempt to make America great again, he is actually making Europe great again. On today’s show, Stephen Flurry discusses the urgent rise of a European military and the dangers this poses for the world.

Know Your Bible: How to Be More Like God
https://www.pcog.org/articles/3116/know-your-bible-how-to-be-more-like-god
God never stops sustaining the universe we inhabit. He never gets tired of giving. And He never gets tired of answering your prayers.
On one day, you might pray that it will not rain so your local Church picnic isn’t ruined, and on the next, you might pray that it will rain so that your garden will grow. God hears both prayers with equal interest and no fatigue—and He answers!
God is, in fact, the greatest servant of all time. Scripture reveals that this particular attribute of God—being a servant—can make you great as well.
In Matthew 20, when the mother of James and John came to Christ and sought more preeminence for her sons, Jesus responded that only God the Father can give positions of authority in His Kingdom (Matthew 20:20-21). God the Father is the greatest giver of all.
Verse 24: “And when the ten heard it, they were moved with indignation against the two brethren.” Not only were the two seeking preeminence, but the other 10 were upset that they were. All 12 were somewhat competitive as unconverted young men.
Christ put things in perspective for them. He said, “Whoever wants to be the great man among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave of all” (verse 26-27; Moffatt). This is all it takes to be great! How simple that is.
It should not come as a surprise that God is infinitely concerned with serving. And since He is, we should be too. Let’s learn more about this great attribute of God. If we implement it ourselves, we can become more like Him.
The Power to Live Righteously
https://www.pcog.org/articles/3104/the-power-to-live-righteously
A fatal flaw in human thinking is to believe you can overcome your problems on your own. True Christians are offered help unavailable to mankind in general. Are you tapping into this resource?
A fatal flaw in human thinking is to believe you can overcome your problems on your own. True Christians are offered help unavailable to mankind in general. Are you tapping into this resource?
Are you a Christian? If so, your life is a constant, daily struggle to overcome sin. This leads to a fundamental question: How do you approach that struggle?
Most people think they can solve their weaknesses and problems themselves. We all have the tendency to think this way. But the truth is, we don’t have the power to solve our problems!
The true Christian needs power in his or her life: power to fight, power to overcome, power to conquer, power to vanquish, power to live a righteous life!
Perhaps you agree with this. Perhaps you know it. But do you realize the depth of it? Do you find it easy to forget and hard to apply?
Notice what Herbert W. Armstrong wrote in his Author’s Statement in Mystery of the Ages: “I have often said it is much more difficult to unlearn an erroneous supposed truth than it is to learn a new truth. Even in these past 58 years I had not fully and clearly realized the significance of the fact revealed in Genesis 3:22-24—that, in fact, God had closed the Holy Spirit and eternal life to mankind in general until the removal of Satan at the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. Traditional Christian teaching had always assumed there is a contest between God and Satan—that God has been trying desperately to ‘get the world saved,’ but in this great controversy Satan has been winning. In other words, God had sent Jesus Christ at his first coming to try to win this ongoing war against Satan. Traditional Christianity has taught that ‘whosoever will may come’ and be ‘saved’ through Jesus.
“For some years I had come to partially realize the error of this assumption, but the full truth on this point had not come crystal clear to me until very recently. This truth is indeed mind-boggling. It clears what had been clouded in mystery.”
When it comes to your faults and sins, are you slipping back into the error that you can overcome them yourself? In that moment of choice, that moment of confrontation, that moment when you struggle against sin, does it remain crystal clear to you that you cannot trust in yourself? (Jeremiah 17:5).
“O Lord, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps” (Jeremiah 10:23). Again and again, God reveals to us through the Bible that we humans are incapable of guiding our own lives! We are incomplete! We need God to guide us.

Israel, the UN and Man’s Last Best Hope
https://www.thetrumpet.com/article/14323.18.0.0/world/israel-the-un-and-mans-last-best-hope
Some experts have started to admit that we need a “strong hand from someplace” to fix the main problem facing not only Israel, but the entire globe.Human governments haven’t been able to stop the mad careening of civilization toward the precipice of self-annihilation. And in fact, that “strong hand from someplace” did warn us a long time ago, in words that evoke a vision of our modern UN. Isaiah 59:8-11:
The way of peace they know not; and there is no judgment in their goings: they have made them crooked paths: whosoever goeth therein shall not know peace. Therefore is judgment far from us, neither doth justice overtake us .… We grope for the wall like the blind .… [W]e look for judgment, but there is none; for salvation, but it is far off from us.
The need is desperate for that strong hand, but it is “far off from us.” But not for long.
“And he saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor: therefore his arm brought salvation unto him; and his righteousness, it sustained him” (verse 16).
That arm of salvation is on its way very soon. Given the worsening world conditions, for those who believe the Bible, it has to be (Matthew 24:21-22). For more information, read the booklets offered with this article. Our “last, best hope” has already failed us. We can’t honestly expect to survive through another world war that would inevitably be nuclear.
It’s about time we reach out to that strong hand from someplace.
